For America’s 250th anniversary, the United States Mint has given the nation more than a commemorative half-dollar. It has given us a clear message.
The new Enduring Liberty Half Dollar places the face of the Statue of Liberty on one side, her eyes fixed toward the future. On the other side, Liberty passes her torch to a new generation. Around that torch are words every WealthWave leader should take personally:
“Knowledge is the only guardian of true liberty.”
That is not just a coin inscription. That is a leadership assignment. The U.S. Mint says the 2026 Semiquincentennial coin designs commemorate 250 years of American liberty, and the half-dollar’s reverse shows Liberty passing the torch “with the momentum of purpose” to the next generation.
And that’s exactly what we do. We pass the torch.
Not a theory. Not a slogan. Not a product pitch. We pass knowledge. We teach families what too many were never taught. We help people understand money before money quietly controls their future.
America was built on a radical belief: ordinary people could govern themselves.
That belief changed the world. It gave generations the chance to own property, build businesses, speak freely, worship freely, create opportunity, raise families, and rise by effort, discipline, and vision.
But the Founders understood something many people forget today: liberty does not protect itself.
James Madison warned, “Knowledge will forever govern ignorance,” and said that people who mean to be their own governors must “arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives.”
That sentence should stop every leader in their tracks.
Because ignorance never stays neutral. Ignorance always creates vulnerability.
When people don’t understand money, they may still be free on paper, but they’re exposed in practice. They’re exposed to bad debt, high interest, hidden fees, poor decisions, impulse spending, financial stress, underinsurance, inadequate savings, retirement shortfalls, and advice they don’t know how to evaluate.
A nation can have liberty in law and still have millions of families trapped by financial confusion.
That’s why financial literacy matters.
Money isn’t everything. But tell that to a family drowning in debt. Tell that to a parent choosing between groceries and a utility bill. Tell that to a worker who spent 40 years on the job and reached retirement with too little saved because no one ever explained compound interest, taxes, inflation, risk, insurance, or the true cost of waiting.
Money may not be the highest thing in life, but it touches almost everything: choices, time, family, health, housing, education, generosity, retirement, dignity, and peace of mind.
That’s why teaching people how money works isn’t a small mission.
It’s not optional work.
It’s liberty work.
The National Financial Educators Council’s 2025 survey estimated that poor financial literacy cost the average American adult $948, adding up to more than $246 billion in estimated nationwide losses. That figure is survey-based, but not knowing how money works can be expensive.
Financial ignorance has a price.
Families pay it in interest.
They pay it in fees.
They pay it in stress.
They pay it in missed opportunity.
They pay it in delayed dreams.
They pay it in futures that could have been stronger.
And here’s the hard truth: most people are not financially illiterate because they are lazy. They’re financially illiterate because no one taught them.
That’s the gap WealthWave was built to close.
Think about the symbolism.
A coin is money.
On that coin is Liberty.
And Liberty is holding out a torch.
The inscription says knowledge guards true liberty.

Because one clear explanation can change the direction of a family.
And one changed family can influence generations.
The torch does not pass itself.
It has to be carried by people who believe the work matters.
